So first off, I would like to thank the team for actually trying to improve the frame rate. There are so many easier to tackle things, but this one is important, at least to me.
Now, as far as the frame rate itself, I've got mixed results. On the first map I played - Line Harvest, the frame rate was DEFINITELY much better all around. I kept overshooting my targets because I was overcompensating lol
The next few maps I played were all brand new, with the underground tunnel and Caldari sockets, etc' Here things started to get iffy, while the frame rate was silky smooth at the start, as the match progressed it definitely got worse and worse, with some spots of the maps causing 5-10 FPS drops the moment you look at them. This wasn't due to equipment spam, in fact none of the matches I was in had any sort of major spam.
Then we went on the Gallente Research facility, and I noticed absolutely no improvement (and if there was, it was absolutely tiny). It was the same lagfest that it always was.
My analysis: While I have no idea what you guys did on the backend, I would assume that you cleared up a few major bottlenecks that clogged up the frame rate. I think the major thing that is holding the frame rate back right now is the poly count. On line harvest and the Caldari maps the structures are mostly square and have sharp lines, while on the Gallente maps, the structures are all round and smooth, which would shoot the poly count through the roof I would assume.
And judging from what maps I got the most performance drops, I would say this is accurate.
So umm, yeah, it worked on some maps, now you have to do something about poly counts on maps.
Sidenote: Did you guys do anything to the sound system? I noticed that I could hear many, many more sound cues that I would have otherwise never heard. Weapon switching, footsteps, decloak sound, etc'.
Many, many times I heard the enemy before I've seen them, heck I even pre-shot as I heard an enemy come around the corner. This was never the case before, very rarely could you hear sound cues.
